The 2023 Scouting for Food (SFF) service project is ramping up and your unit’s participation and efforts are key to making this important service project successful. Scouting for Food is the nation’s largest single-day food drive and an opportunity for Scouts to make a significant impact in our community by helping local families. Last year, Central Florida Council was able to provide more than 50,000 meals through Second Harvest Foodbank! Our District goal this year is to collect 50,000 pounds of food.
The unit coverage map for the Colonial District is online HERE. Please email me with any coverage area changes. If you are a new unit, let me know the area you would like to cover.
Important Dates:
— Today: Register your unit HERE if you haven’t already.
— October Roundtable: The SFF bags are back and will be provided to the units.
— November 4: Your unit will distribute the SFF bags to residences in your assigned area. Also consider asking your chartered organization, local businesses, apartment complexes, etc. if your unit could place a food collection box at their location.
— November 11: Your unit will canvas your assigned area to collect SFF food donations and deliver/report donations at a district collection site. District collection site locations are on the map and will be at Second Harvest Food Bank and STU Import/Export (* aka The Popcorn Warehouse *). Volunteers will be needed at the collection sites.
Thank you for supporting Scouting for Food and your commitment to serving our youth and community. Please let me know if you have any questions.

We are gearing up for the largest single-day training event in the Central Florida Council—University of Scouting, scheduled January 27, 2024. Please help our preparations by filling out this survey by October 10th. Don’t delay, fill it out today!
Our goal is to have an outstanding day, but we cannot do it alone. We need recommendations on Vendors to invite to share their opportunities with you. Our midway grows with your suggestions!
Our goal is to have program-changing courses for leaders of Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scouts, and Explorers to enjoy, but we cannot do it alone. We are calling upon Scouters who have taught in the past to share your valuable knowledge. There are a lot of new Scouters that can benefit from your wisdom. We are also calling on Scouters who haven’t taught before to offer your talents to teach a course and offer a fresh perspective.
Our final goal is for the youth to have courses to take, but to do so, we are in need of scouters that have the ability to offer a one of a kind memorable courses. We want the youth to immediately benefit from their everyday scouting lives.
We want to surprise the youth and Scouters with Venture Crew, Sea Scout and Explorer courses, however we need to have the subject matter experts in hiding to help make these courses come to life.
Thank you for your assistance on this outstanding day of learning as we celebrate scouts together. Our University Cabinet will be reviewing all the filled out surveys to help put together and connect with all the Instructors. Please contact my email below if you have any questions. We need your gifts, connections, and you to help teach a course! Thank you, and remember to complete the survey today!

There must be a registered female adult leader 21 years of age or over in every unit serving females. A registered female adult leader 21 years of age or over must be present for any activity involving female youth or female adult program participants.

Limited exception below for Cub Scout overnight Programs.
Cub Scout Programs – Overnight Exception: Cub Scout parents or legal guardians taking part in an overnight Cub Scout program with their own child or legal ward are not required to register as leaders. All adults must review the “How to Protect your Children from Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide” that can be found in the front of each Cub Scout Handbook. In addition, the parent or legal guardian must be accompanied by a registered leader at any time they are with youth members other than their own child/ward. Next Roundtable: Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 7:00pm
We would like to invite you to the Colonial District Roundtable, which is typically held on the 3rd Thursday of every month at Centre Point Community Church (9580 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32825). Doors open for gathering at 6:30pm, and opening flag is at 7pm. Roundtable is a great way for Scout leaders to share ideas, network and get information about our Council and District. Ideally, every unit in our Council should try to have at least one leader attend every month so that you can take what you learn to your Units!
This month’s October Roundtable will be held on Thursday 10/19/23 and will feature our Annual ‘Meet the Troops’ night. This is an opportunity for Webelos and AOL scouts to come and meet representatives of Scouts BSA Troops in attendance. Troops are invited to host a table to share information with prospective Crossover scouts (e.g., meeting time/location, what makes your troop awesome, upcoming invitational event details, etc.), We hope to see you there!
Topics for October Roundtable breakout sessions are as follows:
Cub Scout Breakout: Fall program, fundraising, advancement, den leader resources, and volunteer delegation
Scouts BSA Breakout: Advancement, balancing recruiting, school activities, elections, Fall Camporee
If you have any announcements or messages you would like to present or convey at Roundtable, please contact Mike Hockman, Roundtable Chair, at mikehockman1@gmail.com

Please note the following information for Life scouts working on their Eagle Rank:
1. The Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook has been recently updated. All earlier versions of the workbook need to be copied over to the new 2023A before district review. Download the NEW Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook PDF from the National website at:
https://www.scouting.org/programs/scouts-bsa/advancement-and-awards/eagle-scout-workbook/
Please note that the “Signature Page” (Page H) has not changed in the NEW Workbook Project Proposal section. If you have approval signatures already, you do not need to get them again. Just attach a printable image of that page with the NEW Workbook.
2. Life scouts who are ready for their Eagle Project Workbook review and District approvals have the option of personally meeting with a District Advancement team member by appointment. The Life Scout can still opt to do this process electronically, if preferred.
3. Eagle Boards of Review (EBOR) will be held by appointment at a location coordinated by the District. While the District will be coordinating the location, Troops are still encouraged to send their own representatives for their EBOR. If the Troop is not able to provide representatives, district representatives can be available.

Michelle Adamick is the Colonial District Merit Badge/Nova/SuperNova Coordinator. All requests to become a Merit Badge Counselor or Nova/SuperNova mentor should be submitted to Michelle at ColonialMB1@gmail.com.
If you are unsure of the status of your application to become a Merit Badge Counselor or a Nova/SuperNova Mentor, please send Michelle an email and she will advise.
Also, with system updates to Scoutbook over the summer, it has come to our attention that for some Merit Badge Counselors, Merit Badges were dropped; and there is not an easy way to know what was previously listed but is now missing. In order to restore Merit Badges that have been dropped (or to add new ones), please email Michelle a Merit Badge Counselor application along with a copy of your current YPT certificate. On the application “Add” the merit badges that are missing in Scoutbook.
