Scouting America is phasing out YPT training and replacing it with <\/span><\/span>Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT)<\/span><\/span><\/strong>. If you have not taken SYT already you must take it by May 31st or you are not able to act as a leader until you complete it. SYT has also become a training that must be completed every year. The refresher training is only takes 20 minutes as long as you don’t let it lapse for more than a week. If you do let it lapse for more than a week, you must retake the full 90 minute training. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

All close contact leaders (Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Cub Master, Assistant Cub Master, Den Leaders, and Assistant Den Leaders) must take <\/span><\/span>Hazardous Weather Training<\/span><\/span><\/strong> every 2 years. If you do not, you will not be considered a trained leader any longer. You must have at least 1 registered adult leader at all outdoor activities with hazardous weather. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

From March 2026 through February 2027, Scouts across all programs can explore what citizenship, community, and freedom look like today. This limited-time challenge blends learning, creativity, service, and reflection, all leading up to July 4, 2026. \u2022 Take the online course for your registered position via <\/span><\/span><\/span>https:\/\/my.scouting.org\/<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>. Remember that if you change positions, you need to register for the new role and take the training for that role to be considered \u201cTRAINED.\u201d Visit <\/span><\/span><\/span>my.scouting.org<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> for all your online training needs!
\u2022 Every leader must be current with the new Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) by May 31, 2026 when YPT is officially phased out. SYT must be renewed every year. A 20-minute refresher SYT course is available for persons who already completed the 90-minute SYT course and renew their training before expiration. The 20-minute refresher option goes away if SYT is expired for more than 1-week, and the 90-minute course must be repeated. Don\u2019t let it expire!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The request should identify possible available dates for the EBOR, and if known, provide a location and preferred time. <\/span><\/span>A Scout may make this request, but must have coordinated with and cc their Unit Advancement Chair when doing so.
