The <\/span><\/span><\/span>2024 Narcoosee District Cub Scout Family Fun Day<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong> was a huge success! Over 500 Cub Scouts and family members participated in activities including shooting sports, bottle rockets, rain gutter regatta, crafts, bounce house, tug-o-war, interacting with our local fire department and SWAT team, and learning some first aid and camping basics.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kudos to the event coordinator\u2014Antonio DeViva\u2014and his amazing team of volunteer Scouts and Scouters. We are also grateful for event sponsors including Centerpointe Church (venue), RentAJumper (bounce houses), Mas Tec Communications Group (water bottles), Orlando Health (First Aid training), OC Fire Rescue (fire truck and crew), and Orange County Sheriff’s Office (SWAT vehicle and officers).\u00a0<\/p>\n

Scouting for Food 2024<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

We hope everyone\u2019s Scouting for Food bag distribution went smoothly yesterday. Next Saturday 11\/9\u00a0is food collection!\u00a0Please wait until\u00a0after\u00a09am to\u00a0begin collecting the bags in your unit’s assigned territory. If possible, we encourage you to publicize the bag collection on social media (Facebook, Next Door, etc.) with a reminder to have the donations set out in a visible location prior to 9am Saturday.

How to Report Service Hours<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

BSA Units from all programs are requested to record service hours in Scoutbook. This can be done by the Key 3 (CM, CC, COR), Advancement Chair, or someone officially designated as a Key 3 delegate in<\/span>\u00a0My.Scouting.org<\/a>\u00a0via Organization Manager. Only these positions have access to the Internet Advancement system in which the service hours are to be logged.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Central Florida Council Camporee that was scheduled February 7-9, 2025 has been canceled. Consequently, the Narcoossee District Webelos Woods is BACK ON for January 17-19, 2025. Narcoossee District is also working to plan a Spring Camporee event for Scouts BSA Troops. Stay tuned for details!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

BSA Lifeguard Program Transition<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Scouting America is transitioning away from the BSA Lifeguard certification program effective December 31, 2024. Moving forward,\u00a0Scouting America will be partnering with well-established certifying agencies such as the American Red Cross, YMCA, StarGuard Elite, and Ellis & Associates to ensure local councils access to top-tier lifeguard training.\u00a0As part of this transition, currently certified BSA Lifeguard Instructors and BSA Aquatics Instructors will have the option to participate in a crossover course to become American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructors, if they choose. Effective 9\/27\/2024, all Scouts BSA troops, Venturing crews, and Sea Scout ships that provide unit-level sponsored\/planned range and target activities must have at least one registered unit leader 21+ years of age take the Range Activity SAFEty online training available on<\/span>\u00a0my.scouting.org<\/a>. Narcoossee District is hosting BALOO training at Moss Park November 16-17, 2024\u00a0<\/strong>with\u00a0<\/strong>Friday camping (before the training) available.\u00a0BALOO stands for Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation. It\u2019s designed to introduce Cub Scout leaders to BSA policies, skills, and ideas for planning and implementing a pack overnighter.The BSA requires that Cub Scout units have\u00a0at least one BALOO-trained adult on every Cub Scout den or pack overnight outdoor event. So take advantage of this opportunity to increase your pack’s BALOO-trained leaders!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We would like to invite you to the Narcoossee District Roundtable, which is\u00a0typically be held on the third\u00a0Thursday of every month at Centre Point Community Church<\/span> (9580 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32825<\/a>).\u00a0Doors open for gathering at\u00a06:30pm, and opening flag is at\u00a07pm. Roundtable is a great way for Scout leaders to share ideas, network and get information about our Council and District. Ideally, every unit should try to have at least one leader attend every month so that you can take what you learn to your Units!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This month’s November Roundtable on 11\/21\/24\u00a0<\/strong>will feature “International\u00a0Night\u201c to spread International Awareness and share cultures. \nHello, Narcoossee District!\u00a0 617 units are excited to host this year\u2019s Narcoossee District Camporee!\u00a0 The event will be the first weekend of December (December 6-8) at Moss Park in southeast Orlando.\u00a0 We have an exciting Moana themed event planned.\u00a0 Activities will be themed around <\/span>characters and activities you will have seen in the movie \u2013 Capture the Coconut (a variation on Capture the Flag), Arrow Spears, Navigating with Maui , strength games and an obstacle course.\u00a0 Plan ahead for a Polynesian inspired cookoff competition and bring your patrol\u2019s best Hula or Haka dance for our closing campfire.\u00a0 A full leaders guide will be available soon.\u00a0 The event itself is no cost!, though troops will be on their own for meals. Narcoossee District Webelos Woods 2025<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

With cancelation of the Council Camporee, Narcoossee District has been cleared to hold its annual <\/span><\/span><\/span>Webelos Woods<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> event on January 17-19 for Webelos and AOL scouts and their families. During the day, scouts will participate in individual competitions, and team competitions, including a lash box derby (for units that bring a derby car to race). In the evening, patrols will present songs and skits at campfire, and Crew 911 will lead a flag retirement demonstrating multiple methods. This cost of this event is covered by the Council Program Fee (so no additional cost). Webelos and AOL patrols are, however, responsible for bringing and preparing their own meals.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

If you have Eagle Advancement questions or requests, you have the option to contact either one of them. However, generally speaking, Stan is taking the lead for units geographically located in Orange County, and Theresa is taking the lead for units geographically located in Osceola County. Please note the following information for Life\u00a0scouts working on\u00a0their Eagle Rank:<\/p>\n

1. The Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook was last updated in February 2023. Please make sure you are using the 2023A version when you submit your workbook for district review.\u00a0The 2023A version of the Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook PDF can be downloaded from the National website at:
\nhttps:\/\/www.scouting.org\/programs\/scouts-bsa\/advancement-and-awards\/eagle-scout-workbook\/<\/a><\/p>\n

2. Life scouts who are ready for their\u00a0Eagle Project Workbook review and District approvals\u00a0have the option of personally meeting with a District Advancement team member by appointment. The Life Scout can still opt\u00a0to submit and receive feedback electronically, if preferred. But in some cases, a short in-person meeting will still be needed for signatures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Dr. Phillips Charities has established a matching grant fund at the Central Florida Council to which Eagle Scout candidates may apply for partial assistance to fund their Eagle Scout Service project.\u00a0Only projects located in Orange, Osceola & Seminole counties will be considered for approval.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0For more information and application:\u00a0https:\/\/www.cflscouting.org\/dr-phillips-charities-eagle-service-project-grant-application\/<\/a><\/p>\n
